That's like on par with for not even giving a shit. Also I like how HPE is also the abbreviation for a really disturbing facial deformity syndrome. GOOD EFFORT.

The line of the G is pointing to the center. That said I think the rainbow G is totally unreadable when it's in a thumbnail.

That's a word? In german noun adjuncts are written together rather than separate (e.g. "police car" vs "policecar"). so no, this is not a word you're going to find in a dictionary, it's just a bunch of nouns stuck together. it means "beef labelling control task transferral law" whatever that is

I'm starting to think this new logo was designed as a service to the world so that font geeks could, for the briefest of moments, think they're smarter than Google.

I see vertical symmetry where there would be none. They should think more like Google. I tried to find more, but got nothing. Where's the treasure hidden?

I always ask myself how important the finer points of design/typography actually are to its target audience. like does the average user of consumer level smartphones really care which one of 2 neary identical looking fonts is used in menus and what shape the icons are? i mean like, beyond basic accessibility concerns.

They don't but I've always felt that people have a sense of quality even if they can't pinpoint what makes one thing better than the other.

thats really hard it gets nitpicky at the end, but visual space design is really important and whole point of good design is not to be visible for average person for example here from skype brandbook:

That's the same with game design, who care that it's not frame perfect aside from hardcore gamer and designer? GTA has been lambasted for its 800ms lag with input that makes for shoddy shooting mechanics, still a huge success
