I hope your remake of Bionic commendo be better than capcom's arm wife.

Also kinect motion capture has only a limited capture space, so it limit the type of capture you can do. You can still do home base motion capture through many more solution I hadn't update since the hacked ps3 eye toys.

The real killer thing is to have facial animation though, which is a whole pipeline nightmare as capture might not be that hard the old way either.

ive had a lingering pain in my hip because i still wanted to prove to myself that i can kick 2 meters high without warming up. i can, but at what cost? im old now

They don't if kinect, you need regular mocap hell with artist to correct the overlap, but basically you need a big space and a lot of captor, I haven't dug enough to know much further though. But the current trend is to move to deep learning to replace part of the labor.

There is multiple solution around, you should shop a bit, I think there is enough literature and tips to google by now. Many indie have a mocap workflow nowaday, latest was the small team made for hellblade who pushed the facial mocap pipeline down to low cost relatively to a 15 team budget.

and yet the weird checkerboard shrubs, probably just meant to appear vaguely leafy and transparent on a crt, were made HD weird checkerboard shrubs

I agree, seems like a deliberate choice, they remove contact shadow that makes things a bit too flat with the worse of airbrush and cgi. Some people have added contact shadows on mock screen and the scene looks instantly more lifely, I don't mind that much, it does give a bigger sense of space and scope I wasn't expected. still quite visually impressive, I would like mania 2 to follow similar direction.

Also there is some innaccuraccy, the way the screen follow and acceleration do change the feel a bit too. And while character are well animated they are bit too smooth by trying TOO stay close to original sprites, they looks like better version of 2xsai uprez instead of artist rendition. When the character move out of the lavish reproduction it's a bit better (like the end level animation), The remix is god like though.
