Mmm... maybe that's the problem. I tried to choose not-too-contrasting tones because I wanted them to look like you're looking into a gameboy screen, which as far as I remember didn't really have pure black and white on it, or it just didn't show contrast that well. I like the tones as they are now so I'll experiment with actually changing the graphics on the hud, but I'll consider using higher contrast. By the way nobody said which game that was based on yet.

I think that's one area where the limitation might not improve the experience ... I think you get a similar gameboy-alike feel from the higher contrast version (especially since it's probably been a long while since most of us have played on a non-color gameboy?). But if you really want the retro effect, shouldn't the screen be more greenish? By the way nobody said which game that was based on yet. Is it ... an unofficial prequel to B-Game Hickbilly Bride?

Is it ... an unofficial prequel to B-Game Hickbilly Bride? Nope, sorry. I agree that the contrast bit is probably going a bit too far, but I still like how it looks. Maybe when I come around to making 4-color games I'll use near pure black and white as the ends of the grayscale spectrum. New version with higher contrast and greenish tint (maybe too greenish, I dunno)!

Yeah, I think that darkening the darkest color to pure or almost pure black might be enough.
Edit: Gameboy green contrast looks pretty sweet.

If you want a reference gameboy-esque palette, I think Alex The Allegator 4 has a nice one:

Points to who figure out what that is. Some iteration of Time Splitters, yeah? I remember vaguely a seaside level with lots zombies succumbing only to head-shots.

Melly: I recognized it because of the bridge and nest(is there a blue pendant...I mean greenish pendant hidden there?), but maybe if you added more shambling peasants it would make it clearer.

"More shambling peasants" is a sure-fire way to improve any game!

"More shambling peasants" is a sure-fire way to improve any game! Why do you think RE4 was so awesome? Story and dialogue?
