Hello, I have been reading the tigsource blog for a while and occasionally check out the forum posts. I finally am deciding to stop lurking and join in discussion and maybe even find collaborators for small game projects.

I look forward to talking with those of you here at the forum!

Oh my background is an art and design one, and I have been playing games since I was very young. In the arcades and also since some of those pre-NES atari machines. I am still an avid gamer and appreciate all types of games from small indie to big AAA titles. They just have to be good, unique and have a nice art direction to win me over. For example I love games like Machinarium, and am currently playing Metro  2033.

I have a website with art at specialpalace.com. Have a look!

Hi all I'm Ishlilith, 28 and from the sunny lands of Spain (although right now it's pouring down).

I've been playing games for as long as I can remember, first in the arcades and in a friend's 2600. Later I got a NES for my birthday and with it came Zelda II, which is still one of my favourite games and probably the game I have played most. I haven't beaten it though  Sad.

By then I was addicted and the little I could save was spent in video games, later I bought a GameGear, and finally a state of the art pentium 166.
The first game I installed was Transport Tycoon, it's still in my hard drive (OpenTTD), then came SimCity, PC Futbol, AIV Networks, Capitalism, Europa Universalis and Football Manager.

But as much as I love EU and FM, they are second best to Fallout 2. The freedom offered by that game showed me that games could be much more, not even Darklands had that.

Regarding indie games I suppose I have played them for a long time, even if I didn't knew it. First in floppies and later because they were the only games I could download with a 56K connection, but I started getting interested in them around 5 or 6 years ago, maybe after playing Gish. Since then I have played a lot of them and bought quite a few and I can say: Yes! I have donated to Bay12!.

I have been reading tigsource for a few years but never registered because I thought my input would be useless, but yesterday I made a shitty asteroids clone in flash so I'm now a game developer, just like you. That's all my programming knowledge, so if I ever give advice to you, act as if you take it and then ignore it.

I'm looking forward to being a good member of this community.

Howdy! My name's Matt, I'm in my early 20's, and I hail from the mythical land of New Jersey.

I've been playing games my whole life. One of my earliest memories is watching my older brother play Super Mario 3 and, upon seeing the number "3" written in coins in the first level's secret area, yelling out that's my age!

In middle school I discovered BASIC, and in high school I discovered Game Maker. At some point I had a hobby of making maps for Half-Life but I don't remember when. By the end of high school I'd cranked out a couple of titles. Of course they were all put together as badly as you'd expect from a kid, and they're all lost in the digital ether now, but I've got fond memories of all that junk. It was my junk, and I'm proud of it.

Kinda fell out of it while I was at college, though. I took a programming class or two, but mostly focused on pure math. On the side I also did a little digital art and music, so I have a little background in those departments.

I'm trying to recapture the creativity I really enjoyed as a kid, together with the work ethic and commitment to quality I've learned to expect as an adult. So far I've banged together a few simple games, including a lights-out game and a concentration game, as well as the basic groundwork for my dream project.

Shameless Plug Time: Elsewhere on the tubes I'm known as "mattsmodernlife," and I'm responsible for the oft-delayed Let's Play System Shock 2.

Hey guys! I'm Ethan. I'm 16 and from Chicago... I've been looking around these forums for a while and I finally decided to join because I have a WIP that I really need feedback for, and I think this place is the perfect place for it...

I have been spriting for... around 5 years, but for most of those 5 years I was very bad. I have worked on it a lot and now I think I'm a pretty competent spriter.

I hope I can stick around here because I know it's a very prestigious indie gaming site/forum. Looks like a lot of fun, see everyone around!

As I see this is obligatory topic I beg forgiveness to this be my second post in this forum rather than first one Tongue

Well, I'm 18 year old guy from Finland and I have been interested in video games since I bought Game Boy Color and Pokemon Yellow back in 2000-2001. Well, Pokemon games really sucked me in and they were first only games I played until I happened to find Zelda Oracle of Seasons which really impressed me. After I bough GBA my gaming got wider and I got more familiar with Mario games, Zelda, and Fire Emblem and many many others. I have also NGC with some games on it. One can say that I liked Nintendo games though I had Playstation too Smiley Nowadays I have jumped mainly out of mainstream consoles or commercial games (except my DS Lite, which I originally bought to play my old GBA games after my GBA broke) but I'm still very interested in game design, game industry and indie games(both commercial and free ones).

In 2005 I found Game Maker and got new computer which was able to run it and so I started slowly design my own games. I still use GM as game design is hobby for me eventhough I dream making commercial indie game someday Smiley Most of my projects left abandoned except some little games and entry for YYG's Winter Competition which was called as The North, Pohjola. Now I'm taking game designing more seriously but at the same time trying to maximize my enjoyment to finish my projects. I feel that I have matured with my designing and I have now point & click game underway which I'm determined to finish and make it very good Smiley

Alongside game design, I also like draw and paint things in Photoshop. You can see my works in my devaint art gallery (http://tumetsu.deviantart.com <- Seriously how link tags work with this forum soft?). I also like reading and designing stories. All in all I like pretty much everykind work with creative requirements. My more sporty hobbies include cycling and crosscountry skiing and sometimes hiking.

With all this text, I can't find any other interesting facts to write about me so nice to meet ya!  Wink

Hi there, FreelancePolice here.  Long-time TIGsource reader, first-time poster and all that. In the spirit of full disclosure, I should say that I registered to pimp my new puzzle-platformer (voted third place out of over 100 competition entries by members of EA and Gaijin Games, check out its thread!), but as I am a now a fully-matriculated student of UC Santa Cruz's game design program, I should actually be sticking around as a proper poster.

Hi everyone,

I'm Upriser, or RandyO, or what-have-you.  I am a 24-year old game artist/designer currently working for the man, Trip Hawkins, full-time at Digital Chocolate in San Mateo, CA but living in Berkeley.  In my spare time, I screw around with my own games and art and last year got to be one of the level artists on Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, just a month after graduating college.  I went to school in Boston for 3d animation at a non-game oriented program.

Even further in the background, I am a somewhat scattered person who grew up on the Star Wars extended universe, riding my bike, and drawing random things.  I never really played games and was never allowed a console as a kid, but I was introduced to the potential for games when my buddy showed me Warcraft 2 and its editor.  After that I never really considered doing anything else.  But I have always spent as much time playing games and making them as I have gone bike-riding, playing random musical instruments, and writing poetry.

Games for me are a job.  They are a creative outlet that I have to do, though I might rather enjoy being with friends.  But I love them.  I love the theory behind them.  I love why they work.  I love that they are this crazy mix of art and tech and fully absorbing.  They blow my mind, and I am definitely grateful to TIGSource for showing me some very interesting fringe pieces.  I love to talk about them, and so, in my post-college search for a community that I can truly enjoy, I've decided to try out hanging here.

Oh, and uh, top games?
-Max Payne: I played scenes over and over and over again just to be the perfect John Woo killer.
-Psychonauts: The level design was genius in its wild, untamed nature and the writing was Tim Schafer, so how could it go wrong?
-Shadow Of The Colossus: Can you tell I love a good atmosphere?  Truly incredible game, though at times I wish they had made the bosses more than linear puzzles.
-Those are the top I can think of for now, and I think Just Cause 2 might soon be added to this list.  Amazing how they are all big productions.  Kinda sad, right?

0k, I think that's me, or at least all you need/want to know for now.

Oh, though you can check out my site at www.randyo.net.  So that's all for now!  kthxbai

Hello!

My name's Evan, aka Chardish. I've been working on an indie game of my own off and on, and as the project gets closer to completion, I'm looking for ways to involve myself with the community.

I'm a 24-year-old computer programmer currently located in Kentucky, employed programming user interfaces. Game design and development is a passion of mine, and I look forward to immersing myself in the community as the passion quickly becomes an obsession.

I recently started a blog on game design, housed at http://chardishgames.tumblr.com/.

My current project is called Beatdown; it's a 2D rhythm fighting game. I haven't talked a whole lot about it (anywhere) but I hope to soon.

5 favorite games of all time? In no particular order:
Super Metroid: Flawless level design, incredible replayability, beautiful music and atmosphere. Possibly my favorite game ever.
Portal: Mind-expanding puzzles, brilliant writing, and a seamless integration of gameplay and narrative.
Zelda: The Wind Waker: A strong sense of danger and action and a clear emphasis on the joy of exploration. Simply put, the best adventure game ever made.
Metal Gear Solid 3: All the action of the best Hollywood blockbusters with a story better than any of them. A wonderful popcorn game that actually winds up being quite moving.
Rez: Showed that art games can be exciting and adrenaline-pumping. Wonderfully synesthetic. Never gets old.

Nice to be here! Cheers.

My name is Roan Contreras (I'm Toadfrogs at a lot of sites). I'm a Filipino Game Programmer and I've been making games for 2 years. I'm good at programming, terrible at composing music, I can also do art but I'm not that good.

I'm using Game Maker from YoYo Games for making games, I entered in different game making contests (especially competitions from YoYo Games). My games can be seen in some Game Maker magazines.

Some of my games are like Love Nightmare:

Crash Dodger:

that's the only games I'm saying, all of my games can be seen in my YoYo Games Profile: http://yoyogames.com/users/toadfrogs

I have a site too: http://roancontreras.webnode.com

I'll be looking forward meeting other people and enter contests/competitions from TIGSource Wink

Hello, my name is bradf (not really) and I have joined the forums. I like freeware games originally beacuse I had no money, but then they grew on me (figuratively), so now I just like them in general (but I still have no money).
I am disgusted with most people and I think that the Internet and society is a blight on the Internet and society. Having said that, I do look foward to the apocalypse and the inevitable fall of capitalism, but I am prepared for disappointment which I will embrace gleefully.
I do not usually join forums and I am not very good at socialising or articulating myself, so this may in fact be my final post here!

Amongst my favourite games are Iji, The Way (90s music), Yume Nikki, Spelunky, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and all those games that I forgot the name of but will probably remember it later.

My aim is to make a freeware RPG for people to play that has nothing to do with Tolkein or Japan. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Hi, I'm Lokon when I game, J.M. Perkins when I'm writing to try and win the google fight and John when I'm not being clever.  Long time lurker first time poster.

To the left you can see a picture of me with my eyes closed.

I have an awesome wife and an awesome dog.  In addition to video games I love: science fiction, fantasy, robots, diy, cooking, good stories of every stripe, and all the usual nerd shit.  My business cards say writer * artist * baker but mainly I pay the bills (or don't) through freelance and canibalizing the 401k from the bank job I hated.

Halo and the Dota Mod for Warcraft three almost flunked me out of college  Embarrassed.  But the game I think I've loved the best was secret of mana.  I was young (maybe 12?) when I played it, and to be perfectly frank I balled when Sprite died/passed on.  Not my manliest moment by a long shot, but I always think of that as a testament to how powerful games are as a story medium.  The fallout series blew my mind.

Indy games that I adore: Cave Story (which is just like saying I like indy games) World of Goo, Battle for Wesnoth (I am weak in the face of tactical rpgs) and Spelunky (even though it's old school nintendo hard).

If you're interested in me I have a website (you can check my profile).  I've even made offered my writing services pro bono because I love video games, and I specifically love the energy and creativity of this community.  Anyway keep being incredible you guys, I'll do what I can to try and be worthy of this forum.

Welcome! What do you bake?

Anything with flour in it really.  Right now I'm mixing some oregano cheese bread (cheddar and mozarella) but recently I baked st patrick's day cookies, a cake, some baked apple crepes etc.  I bought myself a 50 pd bag of flour at costco and I've been teaching myself ever since.  Mostly from recipe but I've been experimenting (made some earl green tea cookies... they didn't turn out well actually  Cry

Oh yeah, one time I made beer bread, that was pretty cool.

Hello all I'm Ben! I'm now playing the Wii version of Cave Story, and it makes me really want to talk about games!

It's awesome what you guys are doing here. Making games and then showing them and then talking about them, it's very inspiring.

Also, I'm a Comp Sci student and I'm in love with programming, video games, and music.

Heya Smiley I'm Alistair, and I'm a final-year Maths student who programs his own games.

I started out with Blitz Basic back in 2001 and now work mostly in C# with XNA. Recently I made a game in a 48-hour competition which I'm planning to expand and finish off. The theme was "Education" and I would like to develop it as a learning tool for kids. You can download the current version here http://aitchesongames.blogspot.com/2010/03/i-want-you-to-fight-evil-steampunk.html

I'm also working on a Sonic-style platformer in XNA at the moment, and do various projects with Warwick Game Desgin, a society at my university. Back a couple of years ago I worked with another society member to make a puzzle game called Shifty Trains, which you can download from here http://www.warwickgamedesign.co.uk/games/shiftytrains

I normally draw all my own graphics for my games, and I draw comics as a hobby as well. This is something fairly recent that reflects what I like to draw!

As I'm about to graduate, and planning to go into the games industry, I thought this would be a great way to meet like-minded people. I'm planning to take some time out after graduation to work on my portfolio (and my C++) before applying for jobs, and to spend some time working on my own indie projects.

I'm a big fan of games, but swing more towards older stuff than newer stuff. A lot of modern FPS and adventure games just don't interest me. I love 2D platformers (I grew up with Sonic!), particularly those that were made after 3D got popular (things like Mischief Makers on N64). I like games by Treasure, and I'm also a big fan of World of Goo.

I hope that intro wasn't too long  Tongue
