The Paleo diet wasn't terrible if you were really active. I tried it while I went to crossfit training and I did find it was pretty satisfying. On its own I don't think it is a great diet, especially for people who are not very active, but for people that are using the diet with some tweaking for personal health conditions and such (like adding in some of the shit they take out) it is not a bad starting point.
But yeah, these obsessive diet fads are pretty fucking stupid.

All these stupid diets (the less harmful ones, at least) get people to be conscientious of what they eat and a lot of times it gets them to read the fucking labels and actually learn about what is going into their food. Even if they abandon the diet later they start to unravel the truth behind what they've been putting in their bodies and know what to avoid in the future.
My wife being celiac has made us really research and understand how to balance out our food and be careful with it's preparation (even a tiny crumb of wheat will send her into muscular seizures as her insides basically convulse) so we have learned to keep things very clean and not cross-contaminate the food. Her diet change resonated throughout our household and made us very aware of our food's contents.

other times if they don't have smarts it gets them into reading "nutritionist" conspiracy blogs about avoiding food of certain colours at certain times of day and how potassium is a lie perpetuated by the banana industry and actually harmful for you and especially your babies

The thing is that there was real data manipulation by the food industry I don't blame people for over reacting back in the other direction. I mean the lead industry has been paying research to say lead was beneficial to people (it's a poison) and they are not alone. The more I learn about the food industry, the more I learn by proxy about sociopathy.
