Not necessarily, as long as you put SOMETHING out every other day for people to enjoy, it's fine.

Edit: and, yeah, people have to enjoy your stuff, but that's kind of a given I think.

ProgramGamer has the right idea. I would add a few more tips:
1. Think about how you can categorize your work into tiers. If you're an artist, separate your art into sketches, colors etc. and put each of them in its own tier to incentivize higher contributions. If you're a coder, you could have nightly builds as a pledge reward, and only post stable releases outside of the patreon.
2. Put a limit on any pledge tier that obliges you to do something. e.g. if one of your pledge tiers involves drawing a picture for the patron, maybe limit it to 5 people at most, and make it the most expensive pledge so that you're not swamped in extra work.

Imo Patreon works best with disciplines that have immediate impact (comics, videos, music) and are less useful for people who work on things that take a lot of time to do (video games). That's not to say you can't have a gamedev patreon, it's just going to be a little awkward and you will probably get fewer pledges than people who make things that are fast to produce and digest.

well i don't really wanna run it like a KS campaign, i just wanna keep working from day to day on random parts of my game (like I'm already doing and tweeting about and apparently getting some more following for every time I do) and be honest about that and if people find the game interesting they can support me i guess — so not like some sort of marketing campaign ._.

Do you have any gamedev patreon pages to link to? I tried looking but there was only like five projects under the games category and like one of them was actually some sort of dev so I don't understand how to browse this site. sss:

I wonder how those numbers skew with financial standings. Everyone I know that is low income around here, white or otherwise, abhors the police for the most part. Google "Tacoma police corruption".

On another note, the mentally ill suffer particularly bad when it comes to the police, as do the homeless, regardless of their race. A lot of poor will not report police crimes against them because they fear retaliation or may not have the capabilities to seek out help.

I doubt the people being poled in these sorts of articles are among them. "White America" doesn't have much use for poor America.



On a somewhat related note:

Yeah poor and mental illness is also a problem but it add up fast when you had black to the mix, so there is still a specific black problem. Especially when it does not discriminate with wealthy or middle class black either, it's not like it's easy for black people to rise up to these ranks too.
