Quick question! I'm working on re-branding and unifying all my social media accounts. Under my profile see that I can't change my username but I can change my name. Should that be sufficient or will there be lingering references? I see my login doesn't change but if that's all I'm cool Thanks!

your login doesn't change and if you delete your account, your original username will be displayed next to your posts. that's it.

I have an interesting issue with my laptop... My headset works fine up until the moment I mute the sound on the computer. If I then unmute it, the headset no longer receives any sound. I have to restart the computer to get the sound back in the device. The laptop speakers still work even after I've muted/unmuted them though.

i miss the freeware community most. cave str popularized indie platformes. back then everyone was making their own genres

i think that stuff is coming back thanks to itch.io and gamejolt. you've just got to look in the right places. unfortunately, here is no longer necessarily one of those places.

the influx of AAA bringing marketing and blockbuster technique and the advent of mobile F2P cannibalize the indie spirit. Happen for the casual game movement too if you had follow the history, scrappy people defiantly oppose the industry with dream of redefining the game industry, looked down by everyone they start having success, big money (aggregator) come and ruin everything and gave them a bad name. It's a repetition, we have seen that happen for social too.

we should just return to using the sinclair zx spectrum as a development platform, that would suffice.

Micros like ZX Spectrum were bastions of indie gaming. Only it was called "bedroom coding" back then.

Those days were great (I had an Amstrad CPC, well we had three of them altogether) - either you program in BASIC, or you program in assembler, no real middle ground.

...or you could combine the two, like in Ant Attack and many others.
Yeah, I always think of these old school days when people spin the indie narrative as if it`s something that appeared only after the broadband spread around. Going even further back, I suppose mainframe games were pretty indie too. Akalabeth, Richard Garriot`s first game is a textbook indie release, with the enterprising teen selling it through his local shop packed in ziploc bags with artwork done by his mum. Doom? pretty indie if you ask me. And so on and on.
What am saying is indie scene was always around, just much less navel-gazing than its current iteration. But then I guess it might be some kind of response to the awful bloat & rot of the corporate part of the industry.

interesting factoid about doom: id chose to self publish that game because they wanted to be credited for their own work. back then it was customary to credit the publisher more than the developer (and kinda still IS common practice in the AAA industry).

Indie is a reaction to clogging the self publish system by the increasing dominated publishing gate keeper, casual was a repeat before the plunge but it was born out of the same envy.
